Q: Is there a coffee maker/grinder out there...?
...that stores a pound of beans and grinds up the right amount according to the amount of water you put in it? Or do they all require a daily addition of beans?

A: krups and cuisinart both make grinders like that- you put a pound or however much of beans in and grind as you need, and there is a sealed container for the grounds you don't need that you make every day...macy's carries them both- they're in the 50-60 dollar range. well worth it. i have a crappy free one that gets all mucked up and i have to guess how much coffee every time...my old roommate had the krups one and it was divine. and oddly quiet.....

Q: Could you use a combination Coffee Grinder/ Maker to make homemade soy milk? It looks like the same process.?
I've been shopping soy milk makers online and feel frustrated. I would like one that keeps the beans seperated from the water, has a timer, and makes a high quality soy milk. The only one I've seen that does this is the Bondi Supafine 900, which is not available for use in the US. (Grrr.) http://www.bondiappliance.com/soymilk_maker.htm

A: I have always made my soy milk with just a blender. So I can't say that I have any experience with soy milk machines (in fact, this is the first time I've heard of them). Not sure if you are specifically asking about soy milk machines. However, here is a video link that shows you how to make soy milk with just a blender, big pot and cheese cloth, which is approximately more or less how I make mine.

Q: I want to find a coffe maker roaster and grinder combination that I bought around 1997.?
This machine was made in Japan (I think) and imported to the US. It was a 12 cup coffee maker. It roasted green beans and then ground them and then brewed the coffee. The company made a number of different home coffee roasters and I can't remember the name of the company. I bought the machine from a US distributor whose name escapes me.

A: Indonesia I believe made that type of machine... The combo Roaster, Grinder and Brewer.. The models I am familiar with are the Unimax line, the 551i and the 2000 micro. The link below lists a review of the 2000. Hawaiian Scene Coffee carries three Unimax machines that will roast, cool, grind and brew your coffee for you. Unimax 555si “The Unimax 555si micro roaster brewer has a cozy 5 cup capacity. This is a small Total Brewing System. Using one half ounce of green beans, this machine roasts, cools, grinds, and brews 5 cups of coffee. Great for home use. “ Priced at $287.00 + shipping. Unimax 585si “Unimax 585si is the medium sized Total Brewing System. You can brew 8 great cups of coffee with this model, choosing between several roast settings and enjoy fresh roasted coffee any time away from crowded shops in the comfort of your home.” Priced at $455.00 + shipping. Unimax 425si “Unimax 425si is the large capacity Total Brewing System with a 10 cup capacity. Q: If you roasted soy beans in the oven or skillet, then ground them in a coffee grinder...?
then if you put them into a regular coffee maker with a filter, wouldn't that make soy milk? there must be some way you could make soy milk in a coffee maker..

A: I think that would make a soy substitute for coffee. I don't think they're roasted for soy milk. You could try buying one of those soy milk makers.

Q: Drip Coffee Maker or a French Press?
any opinions on them, I know with a french press you shouldn't have fine ground beans or it will clog the filter. I would just like an opinion. How do you clean the french press? How does the coffee taste? If i get a french press should I get a coffee bean grinder?

A: well french presses make the coffee taste stronger and you would need to get it ground for a french press. the french presses dont have flters just metal mesh.. i work at starbucks and alot of people do coffee tastings wiht the french press o get the full flavor of the coffee. usually always the bottom unscrews and you can just take it apart and clean it from there. but make sure you take a spoon and take otu the coffee grounds and put them in the trash and not down the sink otherwise it will clog... but you will need the cofee to be ground a cerain thickness. if it is too fine of a ground then the coffe press will nto be effecive you will have many small grounds in the cofee so jst make sure you get a grinder that has different settigns and one for french press... if you buy from starbucks you can always ask them to grinfd your coffee fro you for a french press free of charge..

Q: What is the best brand and model coffee maker?
I'd like to pay around $100. I wouldn't mind a bean grinder but that feature is not a necessity. I like coffee strong and hot. I like to make 4 to 6 cups at a time.

A: Cuisinart Grind and Brew. It makes awesome coffee and it has an adjustable heat setting where I only need to keep it one above the middle and that is plenty hot. Also has a special setting if brewing 1-4 cups so it will brew stronger. Def. the best one I have ever had.

Q: How do I cold brew / steep coffee?
I'd like to cold brew a coffee concentrate (not syrup, something like espresso but cold) to reduce the amount of acidity in the coffee. I am brewing up a Porter and would like to add coffee to it for flavor and I've read that cold brewing and/or steeping produces the smoothest coffee flavor w/o the increase in caffeine and acidity. Caffiene is not a big deal to me but the acidity is. Can this be done w/o purchasing any additional hardware? I have whole beans and a plain coffee grinder (no settings). I also have a french press and a regular drip coffee maker. I would like to know what amounts to use and how fine I should grind my coffee beans before doing this thanks!

A: here's some links...you do need some special stuff, but it's cheap. it is less acidic than other coffee and would likely add the flavor you're looking for to that porter. you can try different ratios of water to coffee...3:1, 2:1, or 1:1.

Q: Is grinding your own coffee beans for an auto-drip maker generally less expensive than buying pre-ground?
We received a coffee grinder for Christmas and I just haven't collected the numbers to compare whether grinding your own saves money or if pre-ground is the cheaper alternative. I know the main reason for grinding your own beans is the increased freshness you achieve. I'm just curious if a second benefit might be saving money too. I also appreciate how some beans are more exotic or sought after and carry a higher price, so even when you grind your own, you can spend more than budget pre-ground coffee in a can. And I am not talking about instant coffee or percolated coffee here -- just the standard coffee maker with the paper filter you add ground coffee to -- FYI. What is your experience and what would you advise if we wanted to use this as an opportunity to save a little money?

A: Never, ever buy ground coffee. It's stale and it's horrible. The key to great coffee is freshness. Roasted coffee contains several hundred flavor components (more than wine), however, whole bean coffee begins to lose flavor components after two weeks. Ground coffee loses flavor in three days (actually it begins deteriorating in minutes, but technically it's still pretty good for a few days. Therefore, if you want to save money on coffee AND have absolutely the best coffee you've ever had in your life, then learn about roasting your own beans. Green coffee beans can be purchased for around $5/pound. Roasted beans are usually much more expensive. You can roast your own beans as simply as putting them in a skillet and stirring constantly, using an old electric popcorn popper (only certain types work) or purchasing a roaster specifically for roasting coffee. It's a matter of freshness and quality. You can order green coffee beans from several places in the web. Just search for them. Some detailed information on roasting your own coffee can be found at: http://coffeetea.about.com/cs/roasting/a/coffeeroasting.htm

Q: i have tried everything to make a good cup of coffee.?
i have bought three different brands of coffee, new coffee maker and even store bought water, my coffee always tastes bitter, thought it was me but when i go out the coffee at the restaurant tastes great. my new coffee maker even has a filter built in for the water so it tastes better, but i'd never know it. i even tried a little salt in the grounds and bought a coffee grinder to grind fresh coffee. help me, i love coffee and don't know what i'm doing wrong. thanks.

A: get starbucks coffee, french roast

Q: Coffee aficionados: What brand of coffee do you buy for brewing at home? Do you have a grinder? And what...?
... method do you use to brew it? I pretty much have to have fresh-ground, so I buy whole beans at the supermarket, but I use a 12-cup drip coffee maker... I know it is not the best method, but we need volume! Have a cup on me! By the way, I do have a French press coffee maker, and the little stove-top one... but I forget what it's called...

A: I buy store roasted beans and grind at home. Then I use fresh, filtered water and a coffee machine for a regular brew or an espresso machine for espresso drinks. However, usually the beans are only the beginning. You can add a little of a number of spices - individually or a blend - to give your coffee a delicious and unique flavor. Try green cardamom, coriander seed, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, anise, chili powder (?!?!?!). Put a bit of these in with the beans when you grind and fall in love with coffee all over again!

Q: Looking for a good coffee maker...?
My old coffee maker was a Krups. I had it for 6 yrs & i used it very frequently. Looking for one that would be of comparable quality & affordable pricing. Any suggestions? I am looking for the 10-12 cup kind, NOT the single brew or multi function(expresso/coffeemaker/grinder...).

A: I just Love My MR Coffee! It has a Metal caraff you fill with hot water and leave for a few minutes! Then you dump the water out and brew into the caraff! There is no heater unit which turns the coffee bitter! The coffee is Great, first to the last, a full pot will stay perfect 4 plus hours...Hows That!

Q: Coffee at Home?
I have a Mr. Coffee coffee maker, A grinder to grind whole beans. I have tried many different brand coffees and it never tatse that good. Any tips? Brands etc....???

A: Not too sure what a Mr Coffee is. A percolator? Drip filter? Anyhow, one reason coffee made at home is often not that great, is that the grounds get scalded. If you use plunge coffee, wet the grounds with cold water before adding boiling water. If it is a drip or percolator, it can help to keep your grounds in the freezer.
